Privacy Policy

1. Information We Collect

When you create an account, we collect your email address and optional profile information (name, institution). When you use our verification service, we process the citation text you submit but do not permanently store the raw text after processing is complete.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to provide and improve Citation Check services, process payments via Stripe, and send transactional emails (verification results, password resets). We do not sell your data to third parties.

3. Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored in encrypted databases. Passwords are hashed with Argon2. Authentication tokens are stored in HttpOnly cookies. We use TLS encryption for all data in transit.

4. Third-Party Services

We use Stripe for payment processing, Sentry for error monitoring, and academic databases (CrossRef, PubMed, Semantic Scholar, OpenAlex, Google Books) for citation verification. Each service has its own privacy policy.

5. Your Rights

You can export or delete your data at any time from the Settings page. Account deletion removes all associated data within 30 days.
